UTS Library is hosting a series of FREE author talks throughout the month of May as part of the continuing National Year of Reading celebrations.

This talk will be presented by Pip Harry author or I'll tell you mine and Pam Newton author of The Old School. Pip and Pam will be reading excerpts from their books and discussing their paths to becoming authors of award winning literary work.

About the book I'll tell you mine:

About the book The Old School:

Sydney, 1992. Nhu 'Ned' Kelly is a young detective making her way in what was, until recently, the best police force money could buy.

When two bodies are found in the foundations of an old building in Sydeny's west, Ned is drawn into the city's past: old rivalries, old secrets and old wrongs. As she works to discover who the bones belong to - and who dumped them there - she begins to uncover secrets that threaten to expose not only the rotten core of the police force, but also the dark mysteries of her own family.

About the authors:

Pip Harry is a freelance journalist who has worked on magazines including NW, TV Week and Women's Day. She's the co-founder of a relationships website, realitychick.com.au and has had short stories published in the UTS Writers Anthology and Wet Ink.

Pam Newton joined the New South Wales police force in 1982 and spent the next thirteen years working in and around Sydney in various departments. When she had eventually had enough of meeting people for the first time on the worst day of their lives, Newton resigned from the Job to travel and live overseas. Her first novel, The Old School, was written as part of an MA in Writing at UTS. In 2011 the novel won the Sisters in Crime Readers' Choice Davitt Award and the Asher Literary Award, and was shortlisted for the Indie Award for Debut Fiction and the Ned Kelly Award for Best First Fiction.

I'll tell you mine and The Old School will be available for sale at the talk and Pip and Pam will be signing copies of their booksrt of an MA in Writing at UTS.
